GRADING SYSTEM

CLASSES THAT END PRIOR TO THE SEMESTER CLOSING DATE :
Classes that end prior to the semester closing date may have their final grades submitted beginning the last day of the class. Grades are to be entered through the Faculty & Advising Center (see detailed instructions below). The grade deadline remains the same. All semester grades must be submitted by Wednesday, following the close of the semester, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern.

Important notes regarding your grades:

Once you enter the grades and click submit they are recorded on the students' records and are available to the student within 24 hours. If you click submit and have not recorded a grade for a student you may enter a grade for that student through the Faculty & Advising Center until the final grade deadline for the semester. After a grade has been submitted, if you need to make a change due to an error in calculation, a Special Grade Report form must be submitted to the Office of the University Registrar. It is important to submit grades as soon as possible, but you do have until the grade deadline to submit all of your semester grades.

SUMMER SESSION 2 and FULL SUMMER SEMESTER CLASSES :
The grading system for reporting summer session 2 and full summer semester final grades will be available 8/9/26, after 10:00 a.m. Eastern.

Note: grades CANNOT be entered using Internet Explorer 8; please ensure your browser is updated. Instructions for using the system:

1. Log in to the Faculty & Advising Center using your OHIO ID and password.

2. On the Teaching tab select "Class List/Grading." Note: Only the faculty/instructors listed in PeopleSoft as the instructors for the class may enter and submit grades.

3. Two options for entering final grades:

1) View class roster to enter grades: group.png Click to see the students registered in the class and to enter grades.

2) Import/Load grades: table_add.png Click to paste grades from an external file, i.e., PID, grade, FS Stop Date may be copied from another file and pasted into your grade roster.

4. Click the Save Grades button to save the grades if you will need to make changes later. Click the Submit Grades button after you have completed entering your grades to finalize the submission of grades for the class. Submitting grades will affect only students for whom you have entered a grade. If a student's grade was blank when you submitted, you may go back and enter the final grade online. After grades are submitted any changes must be processed using a Special Grade Report form.

5. If you do not finalize the submission of grades by clicking the Submit Grades button, what you have saved as of the grade deadline will be submitted automatically for you.

Professor Amber Sheeks — Assistant Professor of Instruction, Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences

Professor Sheeks completed her BS in Allied Medicine–Medical Dietetics at The Ohio State University and her MPH (Nutrition) at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs at Ohio University. In addition to teaching, she maintains a private practice as a contract dietitian and lactation consultant and serves on the boards of the Ohio Lactation Consultant Association (OLCA) and the Appalachian Center for Economic Networks (ACEnet).

Interim Dean Janet Simon — Associate Dean for Research, College of Health Sciences and Professions

Dr. Simon has served as Associate Dean for Research since 2024 and is a principal investigator for the Ohio Musculoskeletal and Neurological Institute. She has published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and is a co-investigator on NIH and Department of Defense grants totaling over $10 million. Her honors include the Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association Outstanding Educator Award (2023), the College of Health Sciences and Professions Faculty Research Award (2023), and the Anita Aldrich Distinguished Alumni Award from Indiana University’s School of Public Health. She also serves in leadership and editorial roles with several sports medicine and professional organizations.

Clinical breast examsBreast health educationSame-day mammogram appointmentsFree mammograms for eligible patientsRoutine pelvic exam and pap testClinical services are provided by a certified nurse practitioner. All clinics are comprehensive, in collaboration with mobile mammography and/or hospital systems to provide same-day clinical breast exams, pelvic exams, pap tests, hemoccult tests and screening mammograms, as needed. The Heritage Community Clinic partners with local health departments, hospital systems, health care providers, worksites, and the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project. Breast health education is available for interested groups.

Community Health Programs, with the support of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Projects of Southeast Ohio, provides free women's health services and education. Services are offered at Heritage Community Clinic in Athens and on the mobile health units that travel throughout southeastern Ohio. Our goal is to decrease late breast and cervical cancer diagnosis rates by offering free health screenings, vouchers for mammograms to qualifying women and referrals, as needed.

Participants will leave with the "top 10" strategies for simplifying course and activity design, streamlining routine tasks and focusing efforts where they have the greatest impact on student learning.

The purpose of this learning session is to provide OHIO faculty and staff with the tools and techniques to document teaching excellence. Teaching excellence at OHIO is described using six descriptors (well-designed, well-delivered, inclusive, learner-focused, reflective, and evolving) and eight criteria (preparation, engagement, inclusion, subject expertise, pedagogical competence, outcomes, improvement, and adaptability/innovation). Per the Ohio University Faculty Handbook (IV.A.8), faculty are expected to provide evidence of their teaching effectiveness using one or more of the teaching excellence criteria and multiple sources of evidence.

Learning Outcomes: After the learning session, participants will be able to:

Recognize the six descriptors and eight criteria of Teaching Excellence at OHIO.Identify possible sources of evidence.Map potential sources of evidence to one or more of the eight criteria.Create an individual plan to systematically document and report evidence of teaching effectiveness.

This is determined by the earliest start date of any of your classes taken during the session/semester.

Withdrawal from the University is defined as dropping all classes on or after the earliest start date of any of your classes taken during the session/semester. This means all regular Ohio University classes for which you are registered, whether on one campus or multiple campuses. You must go to the student services office in your college or regional campus student services office to initiate the withdrawal process. Graduate students must contact the Graduate College. Withdrawal from the University is not permitted on or after the last day of classes, as determined by the earliest end date of any of your classes taken during the session/semester.

Note: Canceling your class registration does not cancel your housing. You are required to make an appointment with a Residence Life staff member in your building prior to your scheduled check out date and time to properly check out of your room, sign your Room Condition Report (RCR), and return all keys. If you have canceled your class registration, you are no longer eligible to reside on campus and must move out completely within 48 hours.

International students (F-1 or J-1 status) must contact the Office of International Student and Faculty Services (ISFS), 740.593.4330, prior to withdrawing from the University. Failure to do so may lead to serious immigration problems.

Over the summer, the Writing Commons, which is part of the Academic Achievement Center, underwent a significant transformation with all-new furniture and updated technology, creating a modern, welcoming environment designed to better support student writers. Visit 032 Bromley Hall (facing Union Street) to tour the refreshed center, meet Director David Haugen and the Writing Commons staff, and learn more about the writing consultations, workshops, and resources available to all OHIO students.

Throughout the three-day celebration, visitors can enjoy complimentary refreshments and enter drawings for prizes.

Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician Lukas Nelson has become one of the most respected voices in music today. In the midst of a landmark year, Nelson released his Grammy-nominated album, American Romance, last summer to widespread acclaim. WHAT HAPPENS TO MY BLOOD AFTER I DONATE?

1. AT THE BLOOD DRIVE OR DONATION CENTER You share the gift of life through blood donation. Your donation is assigned a unique computer barcode number, which will identify it throughout its path to a hospital patient.

2. AT THE RED CROSS LABORATORY Samples of blood components are sent for testing to an American Red Cross National Testing Laboratory to ensure they’re safe for patients. The blood is separated into three components: red cells, platelets and plasma and placed in quarantined, temperature-controlled refrigeration units until the test results are received (usually 12-16 hours later). After the blood components are released from testing, they are transported to the hospitals as needed.

3. AT THE HOSPITAL Doctors determine when a patient needs a transfusion and which component they need. The blood component is then transfused to a patient by hospital personnel.

Services Offered

Clinical breast examsBreast health educationSame-day mammogram appointmentsFree mammograms for eligible patientsRoutine pelvic exam and pap testClinical services are provided by a certified nurse practitioner. All clinics are comprehensive, in collaboration with mobile mammography and/or hospital systems to provide same-day clinical breast exams, pelvic exams, pap tests, hemoccult tests and screening mammograms, as needed. The Heritage Community Clinic partners with local health departments, hospital systems, health care providers, worksites, and the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project. Breast health education is available for interested groups.

Community Health Programs, with the support of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Projects of Southeast Ohio, provides free women's health services and education. Services are offered at Heritage Community Clinic in Athens and on the mobile health units that travel throughout southeastern Ohio. Our goal is to decrease late breast and cervical cancer diagnosis rates by offering free health screenings, vouchers for mammograms to qualifying women and referrals, as needed.

The session examines how fostering an environment where individuals feel safe acknowledging mistakes, learning from challenges, and sharing honest, constructive feedback contributes to stronger trust and openness. By cultivating psychological safety, teams can enhance collaboration, improve communication, and achieve better overall performance.

Receiving an “I” means that the student has not completed the work required for a regular grade. The student must have the instructor’s permission to receive the Incomplete. The student must complete the work within the first two weeks of their next semester of enrollment or two years from the end of the term in which the grade of “I” was given, whichever comes first, or the “I” converts automatically to an “F.” The instructor may at their discretion submit a change of grade request to the Office of the University Registrar. When the student applies for graduation, any Incompletes on the record will be calculated as “F” grades for the purpose of determining eligibility for graduation and will be converted to “F” upon graduation.

If a student is trying to register for a class and is not able to get into it via the My OHIO Student Center, they might be able to request permission to get into the class through an online request. If approved the student will be notified to finish enrolling using the My OHIO Student Center. Enrollment in the class must be finalized by the expiration date on the approved request or by the Friday of the second week of the semester.

The class permission process may be used when one or more of the following conditions exist:

Permission is required from department/instructor to enroll in class; student does NOT meet requisites but believes they are otherwise prepared to take the course; class is full; permission to add class after the Friday of the first week of the semester; student has reached maximum repeat/retake limit; retaking course in same semester; override major set aside; faculty permission for time conflict.

AUDITING A CLASS:

You may register to audit classes, which allows you to preview or review courses without receiving a grade or semester hours. Classes taken for audit count in calculating tuition, but they do not carry credit or count toward financial aid eligibility. Audited courses will appear on your official transcript but will not affect your GPA or semester hours earned. Audit courses will not count toward any graduation requirements.

Do not confuse auditing a class with taking a class under the pass/fail option.

Your instructor may set up specific requirements for auditing the class, and if you do not meet the requirements, you may be removed from the class at your instructor's discretion with a grade of WP or WF. Be sure to discuss your auditing status with your instructor at the first class meeting.

A student interested in taking a class under the audit grading option, should register for the class, then contact the student services office in their college or regional campus student services office (by the Friday of the second week of the semester) to complete an audit application. A regular grade course may NOT be changed to audit option and audit course may NOT be changed to regular grade option after the second Friday of the semester.

PASS/FAIL GRADING OPTION: A student interested in taking a class under the pass/fail grading option, should register for the class, then contact the student services office in their college or regional campus student services office (by the Friday of the second week of the semester) to complete pass/fail application. A pass/fail request by a regional campus student is reviewed by the appropriate college's student services office on the Athens campus and may be denied if an inappropriate choice has been made. A regular grade course may NOT be changed to pass/fail option and pass/fail course may NOT be changed to regular grade option after the second Friday of the semester.

Students may complete no more than 12 semester hours under the pass/fail option. No course taken pass/fail may be used to fulfill any graduation requirement (college, school, or department) other than total hours. To be eligible for the pass/fail option the student must have earned a GPA of 2.5 or better for their last semester of full-time enrollment or have an accumulative GPA of 2.0 or better. First semester freshmen are not subject to the GPA requirements. A student may take only one course per semester or summer session pass/fail.

Note: Graduate-level courses (5000 and higher) may not be taken under the pass/fail option. Do not confuse the pass/fail option with auditing a class.

Withdrawal from the University is defined as dropping all classes on or after the earliest start date of any of your classes taken during the session/semester. This means all regular Ohio University classes for which you are registered, whether on one campus or multiple campuses. You must go to the student services office in your college or regional campus student services office to initiate the withdrawal process. Graduate students must contact the Graduate College. Withdrawal from the University is not permitted on or after the last day of classes, as determined by the earliest end date of any of your classes taken during the session/semester.

Note: Canceling your class registration does not cancel your housing. You are required to make an appointment with a Residence Life staff member in your building prior to your scheduled check out date and time to properly check out of your room, sign your Room Condition Report (RCR), and return all keys. If you have canceled your class registration, you are no longer eligible to reside on campus and must move out completely within 48 hours.

International students (F-1 or J-1 status) must contact the Office of International Student and Faculty Services (ISFS), 740.593.4330, prior to withdrawing from the University. Failure to do so may lead to serious immigration problems.

Note: From September 5 – October 30 students may withdraw from one or more fall full semester classes, but the course will remain on student’s academic record with a withdrawn grade and no fee adjustment. Classes that end before December 5 have an earlier deadline to drop.

Drops: You may use My OHIO Student Center to drop any class except your last class through the Friday of the second week of the 14-week semester or the Friday of the first week of the session. Classes dropped will not appear on the student’s academic record.

If you drop hours through the Friday of the second week of a semester (Friday of the first week of a session), you are entitled to a 100 percent refund of the reduction if the change results in a reduction of registration fees, provided you are not dropping all hours. Changes made after the deadlines will result in no refund. If you are receiving financial aid, a change in enrollment status might result in your having to repay programs from which you received aid.

Join the CTLA for our annual Fall Kickoff, where we’ll explore practical, research-based strategies for teaching in today’s evolving learning landscape.

This year’s keynote and workshop will be led by Dr. Michelle D. Miller, professor of psychological sciences at Northern Arizona University. An internationally recognized expert on attention, memory, technology and college teaching, Dr. Miller brings both scientific insight and real classroom experience to her work.

Miller is the author of Remembering and Forgetting in the Age of Technology, Minds Online, and A Teacher's Guide to Learning Student Names. She currently serves as Executive Director of NAU’s Institute for Advancing Applications in Artificial Intelligence.

In addition, a lunchtime panel discussion will provide updates on Ohio University’s response to the Advance Ohio Higher Education Act.

Bobcat Podium provides a supportive setting for faculty and staff to explore communication techniques, practice presentations, and build connections across campus.

Participation is open to all OHIO faculty and staff, regardless of role or experience.

Each session begins with a group discussion or skill-building activity focused on tips and strategies to help you improve your speaking skills. You will receive materials ahead of time to guide the conversation and help you reflect on how the themes connect to your experience.

After the discussion, participants can volunteer to practice public speaking in a supportive, no-pressure environment. Each meeting includes topic suggestions that align with the featured public speaking style—but feel free to speak on any topic that inspires you!

Print exchanges are popular within the print community because they build bonds and highlight the stregth of dispersion through the numbered editions that printmaking offers.

15 artists participated in making a piece in an edition size of 7. The participating artists are: Art Werger, Chloe Ulm, Gwen Putz, Matt Presutti, Haley Kean, Elena Kaiser, Lily Jarrell, Melissa Haviland, Madeline Devantier, Adriane Berris, Nina Battaglia, Madeleine Barkey, Vanessa Jo Bahr, Fio Avocado, and Luiza Helena de Araujo Caetano.

The exhibit is on display on the 3rd floor of Alden Library through Homecoming 2026.

The Central Region Humanities Center 2026 biennial conference, “250 Years: The Promises and Legacy of the Declaration of Independence,” will facilitate an exploration of the history, meaning, and legacy of the Declaration of Independence. It will also highlight the many ways people and communities in the Ohio Valley and Northwest Territory helped to realize the lofty sentiments articulated in the Declaration of Independence in the 250 years since 1776.

Conference events include:

Concert on the Green and Choral Reading of the Declaration of Independence on Thursday, Sept. 10, 6 p.m., College GreenA Conversation with Dr. Colleen Shogan, the 17th archivist of the United States, about the importance of the Declaration of Independence as a historical artifact and foundational American text on Friday, Sept. 11, 5pm, Baker University TheaterConference presentations and student research posters on Friday, Sept. 11, and Saturday, Sept. 12, Baker University centerPublic Exhibitions and other cultural activities on Sunday, Sept. 13, Richland Park, Southeast Ohio History Center, Alden Library, and other locations.

Services Offered

Clinical breast examsBreast health educationSame-day mammogram appointmentsFree mammograms for eligible patientsRoutine pelvic exam and pap testClinical services are provided by a certified nurse practitioner. All clinics are comprehensive, in collaboration with mobile mammography and/or hospital systems to provide same-day clinical breast exams, pelvic exams, pap tests, hemoccult tests and screening mammograms, as needed. The Heritage Community Clinic partners with local health departments, hospital systems, health care providers, worksites, and the Ohio Breast and Cervical Cancer Project. Breast health education is available for interested groups.

Community Health Programs, with the support of the Breast and Cervical Cancer Projects of Southeast Ohio, provides free women's health services and education. Services are offered at Heritage Community Clinic in Athens and on the mobile health units that travel throughout southeastern Ohio. Our goal is to decrease late breast and cervical cancer diagnosis rates by offering free health screenings, vouchers for mammograms to qualifying women and referrals, as needed.

Bobcat Podium provides a supportive setting for faculty and staff to explore communication techniques, practice presentations, and build connections across campus.

Participation is open to all OHIO faculty and staff, regardless of role or experience.

Each session begins with a group discussion or skill-building activity focused on tips and strategies to help you improve your speaking skills. You will receive materials ahead of time to guide the conversation and help you reflect on how the themes connect to your experience.

After the discussion, participants can volunteer to practice public speaking in a supportive, no-pressure environment. Each meeting includes topic suggestions that align with the featured public speaking style—but feel free to speak on any topic that inspires you!
