DESCRIPTION:Since 1986 Mathematics and Statistics Awareness Month is held e
very year in April. It started as Mathematics Awareness Week with a proclam
ation by President Ronald Reagan. In 1999\, Mathematics Awareness Week bec
ame Mathematics Awareness Month. Its goal is to increase public understand
ing of and appreciation for mathematics and is promoted by the Joint Policy
Board for Mathematics. In 2017\, it became Mathematics and Statistics Awa
reness Month to celebrate diversity in these fields. In support of Mathema
tics Awareness Month\, Ohio University Zanesville has organized Math Mornin
g in the Life of High School Students every year since April 2011 until the
pandemic forced us to cancel the event in 2020. We are pleased to announc
e that we are starting to organize the event again from this year and the t
enth annual Math Morning in the Life of High School Students will be held a
t Ohio University Zanesville on Friday\, April 26\, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to
1:00 p.m. As part of the activities\, we are organizing a High School Alge
bra Quiz Contest and a High School Pre-Calculus Quiz Contest. \n\nach parti
cipating team should have two students. Every school is allowed a maximum
of one team for each contest. All participants will be given a certificate
of participation and the winning team in each category will receive a cert
ificate and a prize of $200. The first runners-up team in each category wil
l receive a prize of $100. The eligibility requirements are as follows:\n\n
High School Algebra Quiz Contest: High school students who have taken (or a
re taking) Algebra II but have not completed Pre-Calculus are eligible to p
articipate.High School Pre-Calculus Quiz Contest: High school students who
are juniors or seniors and have taken (or are taking) Pre-Calculus but have
not completed Calculus/AP Calculus are eligible to participate. The focus
in each of the two contests will be on foundations and no calculator will b
e required or allowed. \n\nThe deadline to submit a list of participants is
Friday\, March 15\, 2024. The names of participants along with the name of
the contest in which they will be participating should be sent to Dr. Pram
