The “Where I’m From”: Summer Writing Program is offered by Ohio University Southern at no cost to participants. This workshop is designed to instruct participants in the art of creative writing and expression. Based around George Ella Lyon’s poem “Where I’m From,” participants will write their own version as either a poem or a flash-fiction piece. Facilitators will coach students on proper poetry and fiction techniques to foster a community of creative writers. Participants will be asked to present their final draft in a virtual Writer’s Theater Zoom Live Event.

Workshop Outcomes

  • Illustrate familiarity with diverse professional writers’ styles and voices in fiction and poetry to develop one’s own individual style
  • Appraise self and group work through workshopping, analysis, and critique
