50th Anniversary Linguistics Colloquium | L2 English users’ perception of pitch modulation cues, April 22
The Linguistics Colloquium series presents Dr. Christine MoonKyoung Cho discussing “L2 English users’ perception of pitch modulation cues” on Friday, April 22, from 12:55 to 1:50 p.m. via Microsoft TEAMS.
Cho is assistant professor of Applied Linguistics at Wenzhou-Kean University, Wenzhou, China, and was formerly a faculty member in the Linguistics Department at OHIO.
Abstract: This talk presents recent research, and associated development work on L2 users’ perception of English pitch modulations. The colloquium provides empirical evidence of L2 English learners’ difficulties in perceiving English pitch modulations. It also discusses the ramifications of this phenomenon, which can help understand L2 English learners’ pragmatic challenges.
About Linguistics’ 50th Anniversary Celebration
“We are really looking forward to everyone joining us again this spring, either live in person or via Microsoft TEAMS Fridays 12:55 to 1:50 p.m. to celebrate our anniversary,” said Dr. David Bell, chair of the Linguistics Department, who also invited alumni and friends to add their names to the donor wall by making a gift, of whatever amount, to the Linguistics Department’s general support fund.
He noted that all funds go to support our students’ registration and travel expenses to conferences where they will present their research.
“And please stay in touch! Send us a message on our Linguistics FB page at https://www.facebook.com/LingDeptOHIO,” he added.
