About this Event
30 Park Place, Athens, Ohio
Discover the history behind Southeastern Ohio’s 19th-century asylum, now known as The Ridges. From Kirkbride architecture and elaborate landscape design to changes in patient care and definitions of mental health, the history of the Athens Mental Health Center is an important part of the history of Athens and Ohio more broadly. Today the Asylum's legacy lives on through restored buildings, cemeteries, and the Kennedy Museum of Art. Explore the stories that shaped this iconic site.
Visit the 5th floor of Alden Library to see archival materials from the Athens Mental Health Center collection and student created infographics about the historic Athens Mental Health Center. The history of the buildings, patients, and staff is presented through archival materials from the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections and infographic posters created by students from VICO 4112/5112 Illustration Capstone: Advanced Informational Graphics.
The exhibit will be on view throughout the fall semester.
