Civil Rights, Civic Leadership and Motown: A Conversation with Christopher Jones, Oct. 7

 

The History Department hosts a "Civil Rights, Civic Leadership and Motown: A Conversation with Christopher Jones" on Friday, Oct. 7,  from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. in Bentley Hall 233.

 

Jones earned a B.A. from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University in 1965. While at OHIO, he helped found CAN (Cooperative Action Now), a student/faculty organization aimed at fighting racist housing and employment practices in the area.

 

During his career, Jones served as the head of Motown Records’ Urban and Pop Radio Promotions, the National Director of Jazz and Progressive Music and Vice President for Warner Brothers Records. As a business manager, he worked with many Gold and Platinum award-winning artists like Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, and Diana Ross.

 

He also founded The Christopher Company, which focuses on social awareness and civic engagement. He has now partnered with his daughter on the podcast “What’s UpParent.”
