About this Event
This panel presentation will feature examples of digitized and transcribed World War II veteran questionnaires collected by Cornelius Ryan while doing research on his book The Longest Day. Through a collaboration with the Canadian Research and Mapping Association (CRMA), Ohio Libraries is able to provide access to digitized and transcribed questionnaires. These questionnaires provide an intimate view of veterans memories from D-Day, and also provide descendants insights into relatives' experiences. Panelists will discuss the history of the Ryan collection at the OU Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections, challenges and joys of transcribing the questionnaires, a researcher's personal story of finding a relative's questionnaire, and future opportunities for collaboration with CRMA staff.
