The Contemporary History Institute features Dr. Kevin Mattson discussing his book, We’re Not Here to Entertain: Punk Rock, Ronald Reagan and the Real Culture War of 1980s America on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 4:30 p.m.

Mattson is the Connor Study Professor of Contemporary History at Ohio University.

Mattson’s book examines the positive impact of the punk rock movement and documents how the ideas and modes of expression produced by the movement defied basic assumptions of the time, while also reminding readers of punk’s lasting importance.

Mattson’s research focuses on the intersection of ideas and politics in the 20th century.
