The Contemporary History Institute features guest speaker Dr. Pierre Asselin discussing "Welcoming American Friends to Defeat American Enemies: U.S. Citizens in Hanoi's Visitor Diplomacy During the Vietnam War" on April 21 at 4:30 p.m. in Bentley 227 and on Teams.

Asselin is the Dwight E. Stanford Chair in American Foreign Relations in the Department of History at San Diego State University.

This talk sheds new light on the circumstances surrounding visits to North Vietnam by American citizens in the period from 1965 to 1973 and explores the manipulation used on these visitors by the government of Hanoi to "demonize" American decision-makers.
