The Ohio University Alumni Association (OUAA) and Ohio University's Career Services are hosting a three-part virtual series to help you Future Proof your life! Students and recent alumni alike are invited to join us for one, two, or all three sessions to learn from experts in their field in personal finance, networking, and career development. Also learn about the resources available to both students and OHIO graduates to help you find success in life after graduation!

Session One: Future Proof Your Finances on Friday, September 26, 12-1 p.m. EDT, Virtual
Are you ready to embark on a journey to financial empowerment? Join Community Financial Educator Laura Straub as she helps you identify your goals and explore how different budgeting methods and savings strategies can help you get to your destination. Learn the depths of all things credit—why it’s important, the score breakdown, how to use credit responsibly, and ways to manage debt repayment.

Laura has a passion for learning and helping others, which is why she loves her job as a community educator. Getting to go out into the community and talk about finances to help others achieve their goals and learn more about personal finances is incredibly rewarding. Laura is a Colorado native and an active member in the community and has experience in higher education and in the finance industry.
Session Two: Future Proof Your Network on Friday, October 3, 12-1 p.m. EDT, Virtual
Building and maintaining a strong network is essential—but let’s be honest, it’s not always easy. Sometimes the hardest part is simply knowing how to start a conversation or make a meaningful connection. Join us for a dynamic virtual event to learn practical tips on how to be engaging, spark authentic conversations, and build relationships that actually support your personal and professional growth. Learn how intentional interactions can become one of your most powerful career skills—and take your network (and your future) to the next level.
Speakers: Imani Edwards, BSS '19, and Laurie Lach, BSC '92, MA '18
Imani Edwards is a seasoned public affairs professional with a strong background in government and legislative engagement. She currently serves as the Director of Public Affairs at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP in Cleveland, Ohio. Imani also serves on the Ohio University Alumni Association’s Board of Directors and is a graduate of OHIO’s Young Alumni Leaders program.
Laurie Sheridan Lach, Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations and Campus Partnerships at Ohio University, is recognized for her expertise in communication and her ability to transform conversations into catalysts for connection, belonging, and growth. With an extensive background in organizational communication and leadership, she has shaped award-winning programs that elevate alumni voices and inspire engagement across communities.
Session Three: Future Proof Your Career on Friday, October 10, 12-1:30 p.m. EDT, Virtual
Whether you're job searching or settling into a new role, building a career with intention starts now. In this interactive session, you'll hear from career experts at Ohio University's Career Services and explore the tools and resources available to you as a current student or young alum. Choose a breakout room tailored to your career stage—whether you're actively seeking opportunities or navigating your first job. Topics will include resume and cover letter writing, job search strategies, interview prep, workplace culture, and what to ask when starting a new position. Walk away with practical advice and a clearer path forward.
Speakers: Caleb Beasecker, MBA '18 & MSA '19, and Marcquis Parham, BS '07 & MSRSS '08
Caleb Beasecker is currently the Assistant Director of Career and Employer Engagement at Ohio University where he provides students and alumni with resources to help them achieve their goals. Caleb graduated with a bachelor's degree in sport industry from The Ohio State University. He received a master's degree in Business Administration and a master's degree in Sports Administration from Ohio University.
Marcquis Parham is the Assistant Director for Career Employer Engagement and an adjunct instructor at the Patton College of Education for over the past decade. He has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to higher education, earning the titles of 2023–2024 Ohio University Administrator of the Year and 2022–2023 Adjunct Faculty of the Year at the Patton College of Education. His earlier distinction as the 2018–2019 Administrator of the Year further highlights his sustained excellence in academic leadership and student engagement.
