About this Event
139 University Terrace, Athens, Ohio 45701
Dr. Childers is a Crisis Response Scientist at the Remote Sensing Laboratory (RSL), a DOE contracted lab with sites in Las Vegas, NV and Washington, DC. RSL hosts several full-time national emergency response assets, and participates in the research and development of equipment, software, and methodology used in the nuclear emergency response mission space. This presentation will include a high-level overview of the DOE nuclear emergency response mission and assets alongside a more specific discussion of RSL and the Nuclear Search Program (NSP), an asset under the Nuclear Emergency Support Team (NEST). NSP employs specially trained scientists, engineers, and technicians to support a public health and safety. These missions range from finding lost radiological sources, preparing for large national security events, to searching for nuclear threat devices in concert with mission partners.
