The School of Visual Communication and Ohio University’s Music Industry Summit proudly present VisCom alumna Mia Barnes’s exhibition at The VisCom Focus Gallery, running from March 24 to 28.

This exclusive showcase highlights Barnes’s editorial and commercial photography alongside her video work, featuring never-before-seen behind-the-scenes content. A Los Angeles-based photographer and director, Barnes has collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry, shaping the visual narratives of A-list musicians and celebrities.

After earning a degree in Commercial Photography from Ohio University in 2019, Barnes moved to Los Angeles to expand her creative scope beyond photography into film and directing. She honed her craft under the mentorship of renowned director Dave Meyers, working on music videos, photoshoots, and television pitches. Through this experience, she built an impressive portfolio, capturing and directing visuals for icons such as Drake, Chris Evans, Bad Bunny, Ariana Grande, and Ed Sheeran.

As a director, Barnes has carved out a distinct space in the industry, bringing her dynamic vision to major commercial and music video projects. She directed the Magic campaign for Acura featuring Vince Staples, helmed BMW commercials starring Ciara, and worked on a Samsung campaign featuring BTS. Additionally, she has directed music videos for Camila Cabello, Ciara, Maisie Peters, and all the videos from Ed Sheeran’s latest album.

Driven by a passion for storytelling and emotional connection, Barnes strives to create culturally defining and deeply resonant visuals. Her work captures moments that linger in the minds of her audience long after they’ve seen them.
