South African human rights advocate Mohamed "Shafie" Ameermia considers the case of South African middle-distance runner, Caster Semenya, on Nov. 10 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Scripps Hall 111.
whom World Athletics (WA) ruled must undergo medical intervention in order to compete in women's events.
He argues that World Athletics' ruling was ethically and legally problematic.
Ameermia is a legal consultant and the current commissioner for social cohesion and nation building in the Republic of South Africa and also a former commissioner on the South African Human Rights Commission. He brings with him a lifetime of expertise and experience to share with Ohio University students as a Robert and Rene Glidden Visiting Professor.
