SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY, BY EDGAR LEE MASTERS, ADAPTED BY CHARLES AIDMAN, is a landmark of American literature and a powerful meditation on life, death, and truth. First published in 1915, the work is presented as a series of poetic epitaphs spoken by the deceased residents of the fictional town of Spoon River. From beyond the grave, they reveal the hidden stories, unfulfilled dreams, secrets, and regrets that shaped their lives.

Together, these voices create a vivid portrait of a community—one defined not by its public image, but by the private realities of its people. As individual lives intersect and overlap, Masters exposes the complexities of love, ambition, injustice, and morality. In its stark honesty, Spoon River Anthology invites audiences to reflect on how we live, what we leave unsaid, and how our choices echo long after death.
