Ohio University School of Film to Present First-Year Graduate Student Films

The Ohio University School of Film will showcase 12 original short films created by first-year graduate students during the annual First-Year Screening on Saturday, October 11 at 7 p.m. at the Athena Cinema. Admission is free and open to the public.

As part of a rigorous first-year curriculum, graduate students in the School of Film engage in intensive coursework in production, sound, editing, acting, directing, screenwriting, producing, and film studies. This foundational year culminates in the creation of their first graduate-level film project. Many student films from the School of Film have gone on to screen at renowned festivals around the world.

The films span a wide range of themes including identity, family, freedom, grief, and the coming-of-age experience and reflect on the unique voices and diverse backgrounds of the filmmakers. Projects often feature collaborations with students from the School of Theater and members of the broader University and Athens communities.

The screening will take place at the Athena Cinema, located at 20 S. Court Street in Athens. Following the screening, filmmakers will be in attendance to discuss their work with the audience.
