Science Cafe | Pursuing Climate Resilience in Unexpected Places, Nov. 16

Ohio University's Science Cafe series presents Dr. Geoff Dabelko discussing “Pursuing Climate Resilience in Unexpected Places” at 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 16.

In the wake of the election, the U.S. administration’s approach to climate change is likely to see some high-profile changes, such as rejoining the Paris Climate Accord. Yet, tackling climate change goes beyond the expected environmental arenas and actors.

“Climate change presents challenges for all sectors, at all levels. It cannot be limited to traditional environmental forums. Whether it is making local communities more livable for older adults, as we are doing here in Athens County or tackling security threats at the UN Security Council, the common denominator is breaking out of silos and calling on all-hands-on-deck to meet the challenges presented by climate change,” says Dabelko, professor and associate dean in the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs.

Drawing on his experience as a lead author in the last Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and program director at Washington’s Wilson Center, Dabelko will present insights from three ongoing efforts to build climate resilience in unexpected places.

The series is supported by the Ohio University Research Division and Ohio University Chapter of Sigma Xi. For more information visit the Science Cafe website.
