The School of Visual Communication, in collaboration with the Women Photojournalists of Washington (WPOW), is delighted to present the WPOW Annual Juried Exhibit in honor of Women's Month. The exhibition, taking place from March 4 to March 24 at The VisCom Focus in Schoonover 140 at Ohio University, is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the remarkable contributions of female photojournalists, video journalists, and multimedia producers to the dynamic field of visual journalism.

As part of the event, attendees are encouraged to join a special talk by the distinguished freelance photographer and writer, Caroline Gutman, based in Philadelphia. Scheduled for March 7 at 5:00 pm, Gutman's discussion promises insightful perspectives on the challenges and triumphs faced by women in visual journalism.

More than just a display of talent, the WPOW Annual Juried Exhibit serves as an educational platform. WPOW, boasting over 400 members ranging from seasoned professionals to emerging talents, is passionately committed to raising public awareness about the crucial role played by women and those who identify as women in the realm of visual journalism.

The organization's dedication to community building and fostering connections is evident in its efforts to showcase prints from the exhibition at up to ten colleges and universities throughout the academic year. As a volunteer-run nonprofit organization, WPOW stands at the forefront of advancing women's voices in visual journalism. Through education, empowerment, and elevation, WPOW continues to champion gender-diverse professionals in the field, ensuring their noteworthy contributions receive the recognition and celebration they deserve.

This initiative offers students a unique opportunity to engage with powerful visual storytelling, drawing inspiration from the diverse and impactful works curated by industry professionals. This event is brought to you by the generous support of Sony, the Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation, and Canon USA.
